Update: Glucose test

As I mentioned in my last post I had my glucose test before Thanksgiving and I was hoping not to hear for two weeks because that would mean everything was normal. No such luck. I was called on my cell phone on Monday and Wednesday but never got the messages because I don't use my cell while pregnant. They called the house on Wednesday and asked that I go in ASAP for the three hour glucose test. (The "normal" cut off was 135- I tested at 154)

So, I did that yesterday. I was really nervous about it because I heard horror stories about the drink making people sick. It really wasn't bad at all (but I won't lie that made me nervous that maybe I was a bit too much of a sugar junkie). There were two other girls there doing the same thing, so I had company for the three hours that you sit there. The way it works (for those of you who are fortunate enough to not know) you have to fast from midnight the night before. You go in at 8 and have your blood drawn for fasting sugar levels. Then you drink a higher concentration of glucose than you did for the previous test and wait. They then draw your blood to check sugar levels 1, 2, and three hours later. It stinks cuz you get poked with a needle 4 times in three hours but other than that it was not too bad. I got done at 11 and the other two girls were done by 11:15 so we went out to lunch together. By then we were all pretty hungry. While waiting for our lunch to arrive my sugar crashed pretty hard and I had a really nasty hot flash. That stunk but at least lunch was on its way and I could feel better.

They were supposed to call with my test results this morning. I was feeling pretty anxious about it. I got a call from the drs office around 10:30 and my heart started to race. The woman on the other end of the phone sounded really up beat so I got really excited that I was fine. It turns out they were just calling to remind me of my ultrasound on Tuesday (yeah, like I could forget). Seeing as it was a different department I couldn't even ask about my results. The morning continued to drag. By 1:30 this afternoon I decided I should call. I was thinking no news was good news but I REALLY needed to know something! I called and they left a message for the nurse to call me back. She called around 2 and totally all of my tests were in the normal range so I do not have gestational diabetes. I started to cry and thanked her profusely. (I probably gushed a little and made a fool out of myself a lot but I can't even tell you how much I don't care) I am so relieved to be healthy!!

So that's my saga of the week. At least it ended positively. I am off to go finish cleaning as I am hosting my best friend's baby shower here tomorrow. Oh- Rob posted pictures for the nursery on his facebook page. You can view them here:

(let me know if that doesn't work)

He spent time this week making a 3-D mock up of the room so we can be sure the animals are where we want them and the color we want them before paint goes to wall. I am sure he will start next week.
