our trip to Baltimore

Rob had a business trip down to Baltimore Maryland this past week. Jimmy and I decided to accompany him for our first family vacation. (Almost)

We started our family time on Friday 4/24 by talking a tour of the Freedom Trail in Boston. We had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather.

On Saturday 4/25 we started our drive down to Baltimore around 2 PM. We took a slight detour on our way to go to Liberty Park to take pictures of the Statue of Liberty with Jimmy and Flat Sean. We had a great time. We drove straight through otherwise with stops for food, potty and diaper changes. We arrived at the Residence Inn in Ellicott, Maryland around Midnight. Jimmy woke up as we unpacked the car and moved in to the hotel room. He stayed up for some food, and a diaper change and a few minutes of playing with Dad and then went down for the night. It was the third night in a row that my little guy slept through the night.

Sunday 4/26 brought us to Washington D.C. We went to the White House where Rob got spoken to for setting up a tripod. He seems to be unable to go anywhere without upsetting some sort of authority figure. (And I am crazy about him for it!) We then took our tour to the Smithsonian of American History, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and past the Capitol Building. It was BRUTALLY hot! Jimmy struggled with this new experience but in true James Lombardi form even having a hard time he was still a rock star. After he sweated through his clothes we let him enjoy our capitol city in just his diaper. He certainly seemed to enjoy that! It was a super fun day.

Monday 4/27 took us to the National Aquarium at Baltimore. We saw the Dolphin Show and Underwater 4D and then took an Aquarium break to go across the Plaza to Hard Rock Cafe. After lunch we went back to the Aquarium to see all the tanks. Jimmy was actually very interested in the exhibits, more so than I expected from a two month old. We had a blast.

Tuesday 4/28 was Rob's first day at the conference. Jimmy and I hung out at the hotel mostly. We ventured out to mail flat Shaun home and get some lunch but otherwise we just stayed in our room and enjoyed each other's company. It was a very nice day. After we picked Rob up, we had dinner at the hotel and then called it an early night. Jimmy continued his streak of sleeping through the night to 6.

Wednesday 4/29: Rob went back to the conference and Jimmy and I hung out for most of the day. We walked across the parking lot to have lunch at "Bob Evans" but otherwise had a lazy day. Jimmy started getting a stuffy nose so I thought it best to stay home. Wednesday night Rob had an evening conference so Jimmy and I went to visit my old High School friend Erin. It was awesome to see her and to FINALLY meet her 2 1/2 year old son Ezra. It was GREAT. (Pictures to follow)

Thursday was Rob's last day of the conference. Jimmy's nose was even more stuffy and we stayed in for a final day of cuddles and obligation free time together. That evening after we picked Rob up we met one of Rob's colleagues for dinner. It was delicious and the company was wonderful. We had a really good time.

Friday it was time to pack up and head home. Jimmy was still stuffy but had continued to sleep through the night. Over the past week the only time he woke up was from coughing (a few times it scared him and he needed to be rocked back to sleep and once he had muddy pants and needed to be changed- but even at that it was already 5 AM) We took our time getting ready to leave and didn't get on the road until almost Noon. We decided we would take what was supposed to be a quick side trip to Philly to get our pictures taken with the Rocky Statue and get an authentic Philly cheesesteak. What should have taken us an extra 30 minutes extended our trip by about 4 hours. It was such a comedy of errors. We went and took out pictures with the statue and then intended to walk up the stairs and have our pics taken there. However, Jimmy was hungry and we had to quick walk to the car to feed and change him. After that we did the stairs real quick and it started to rain pretty hard. So, we hoped in the car to find Philly cheesesteaks. We used the GPS to find a place that was 1/2 mile down the road. We got to the location and parked illegally so we decided to take turns to go in. Rob went first to use the restroom and order our sandwiches. He came back about 20 minutes later with no sandwiches because he could not find it. We checked the address and he wandered out again. He came back about a 1/2 hour later empty handed. He had found the place but it was a food court so he figured I should go to the restroom and order the food. I did and came back with food sometime later. Rob and I both ate but Rob wanted another so he wandered off to get it. After that we went out to get home. It was almost 4:30. CRAZY. We finally arrived home around Midnight.

It was a fantastic story to end a fantastic trip. :)
